I Got Motivated
This is first on the list for good reason: Without motivation I would still weigh 320 pounds (or more).
An ophthalmologist told me I had small haemorrhages in my eyes – known as background diabetic retinopathy. I started losing fat the day he told me.
I Tightened My Diabetic Control
Vigilant blood sugar control is important for reducing the risk of diabetic complications, and for fat loss. My control had been edging toward the upper limits of acceptable but it wasn’t tight enough to prevent eye damage.
I Switched to Nutrient-Dense Food
I stopped eating sweets, biscuits, and foods that stimulate appetite.
I ate more fresh vegetables and less rice, pasta, bread, and potatoes.
I became involved in the preparation of my food.
I Paid Attention to Hunger
I ate only when I was hungry. And I ate only until hunger subsided instead of eating until stuffed.
I stopped eating between meals.
I Took Reductil
I took the diet drug Reductil (sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate) under my doctor’s supervision.
I Strength Trained Twice a Week
I increased the intensity of my workouts by taking less rest between exercises, and I started keeping records of each workout.
I Recorded My Body Weight
I weighed myself once a week at the same time of day, and recorded my weight on a spreadsheet.
I Made it a Habit
I stuck with it until it became a habit.
